“We had some success early, but we kind of just fizzled out there,” Hackenberg said. “We’ve just got to figure out what we’ve got to do.”
Let’s calm down the Christian Sackenberg, um I mean Hackenberg hype. The Nittany Lions lost to Temple 27-10 and Hackenburg completed 11 of 25 passes for just 104 yards and guided Penn State to just 2 of 13 third down conversions. Hackenberg deserves his share of the blame for this team’s awful offensive performance, at times showing no awareness balance or lateral ability, mainly exhibited on this play in which Temple sent a 2 man rush and Hackenberg was still sacked.
Hack’s third quarter interception might be his most egregious mistake of the entire game. One big knock on him is his reliance on presnap reads, and as illustrated by this video, for good reason:
Overall, Hackenberg has some work to do. Sometimes it’s worth keeping in mind that the struggles of the QB is always on the QB, but maybe the pieces around him as well. In either care, Hackenberg, Coach James Franklin and the rest of this offense will need to get their shit together.
Potential #1 pick right?
