OT50YL Power Rankings II

  1. Denver Broncos (2-0)
    -Previous Ranking: #8
    -Next Opponent: @ Cincinnati Bengals

It’s not completely a reach to say this defense might be better in 2016 than they were in 2015. After “upsetting” the Panthers in Week 1, the Broncos defense put on a performance against the Indianapolis Colts, including two defensive touchdowns by Aqib Talib and Shane Ray. Trevor Siemian is just good enough to keep this offense going. The Broncos are going to play a lot of close games this season, but this defense is certaintly capable of not only getting stops, but making game changes plays.

  2. Carolina Panthers (1-1)
    -Previous Ranking: #1
    -Next Opponent: Minnesota Vikings

The Panthers win against the 49ers was an extremly weird game but a win nonetheless. But Kelvin Benjamin has added a new dimension to this offense. He looks like a much better receiver than he did in 2014. The defense still has some things to show me in secondary and of course with the edge rush. This matchup against the Vikings is going to be a huge test.

  3. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
    -Previous Ranking: #2
    -Next Opponent: @ Buffalo Bills

The Cardinals completely dominated Tampa Bay on Sunday. It was a much needed win since they blew it against the Patriots in Week 1.

  4. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
    -Previous Ranking: #4
    -Next Opponent: @ Philadelphia Eagles

Big Ben did not look great on Sunday yet he still threw 3 touchdowns. Williams is carrying a high work load with this offense and he looks amazing. But the story of the Steelers so far this season has been how improved the defense looks. Suddenly, this matchup against the Eagles and their rookie QB Carson Wentz looks very interesting.

  5. New England Patriots (1-1)
    -Previous Ranking: #7
    -Next Opponent: Houston Texans

Jimmy G is out due to injury. No telling yet if Gronk will be ready to play on Thursday night. Bill Belichick got his work cut out for himself making sure rookie Jacoby Brissett is ready.

  6.  Minnesota Vikings (2-0)
    -Previous Ranking: #10
    -Next Opponent: @ Carolina Panthers

No telling how long Adrian Peterson will be out due to injury. But if the Vikings can continue getting solid play from Sam Bradford and this defense keeps on looking amazing, they’ll be fine. The win against Green Bay on Sunday was huge for moral.

  7. Green Bay Packers (1-1)
    -Previous Ranking: #5
    -Next Opponent: @ Detroit Lions

Aaron Rodgers played the worst game of his career on Sunday against the Vikings. This Packers offense looks just like it did in 2015.

  8. Houston Texans (2-0)
    -Previous Ranking: #9
-Next Opponent: @ New England Patriots

Houston’s schedule has set up favorably so far. After beating up on a Kansas City team without their two best players, they’ll head to New England this week and take on a Pats team that will be starting their third string QB. Houston’s offense has it’s moments, but this defense will be its calling card all season.

  9. New York Giants (2-0)
    -Previous Ranking: N/A
    -Next Opponent: Washington Redskins

This Giants defense is something serious. The offense hasn’t been able to completly click yet, but as long as the Giants are playing good defense, they’ll continue to win games. The offense will come around evetually. Maybe.

  10. Cincinnati Bengals (1-1)
    -Previous Ranking: #6
    -Next Opponent: Denver Broncos

Cincinnati is in for a sloberknocker against Denver. They will need to get the running game going and make sure they protect Andy Dalton. Dalton was sacked 7x Week 1 and with Denver coming to town, you know they are licking their chops with excitement.
