The official 2017 On The 50 Yard Line Quarterback Rankings

It’s not that I don’t like your quarterback, I just don’t like you. Yes, your quarterback isn’t where you like him ranked and that because I wanted to fuck with you.

Just kidding, but this list is just opinions. No personal vendetta’s and all fandom was set aside.

The list this year was shortened because there are some pretty terrible quarterback situations going on with the Jets, Browns, Texans, and 49ers. Blake Bortles is still terrible and I don’t expect much of Jared Goff. Jay Cutler was just signed by the Miami Dolphins to replace an injured Ryan Tannehill for the season. Jay Cutler is 34 and coming off shoulder surgery so I’m not going to pretend that he’s going to be any good this season.

Before you ask, let me answer that for you

  • There is a gap between the top two quarterbacks and quarterbacks 3-8. The gap isn’t that large, but it’s still a gap.
  • Russell Wilson at 3 isn’t going to be something very popular.
  • Andrew Luck had the best year of his career in 2016 and that was the first time he truly lived up to the hype of that’s he been getting. Too bad the team isn’t that good.
  • Russell Wilson has been better than Cam Newton. Cam is still great in his own right but while he is the more physically talented player, Wilson is efficient and somehow hasn’t died playing behind that offensive line. Meanwhile, Cam Newton has a couple times.
  • Marcus Mariota is the best of the young quarterbacks in the NFL and this is going to be his breakout season. Mariota is that good and that efficient that some people don’t realize that he’s actually a pretty aggressive player. Mariota and Winston will forever be linked with each other but even though I love Winston and his skillset, he’s too reckless with the football.
  • Is it still cool to hate on Andy Dalton? The Bengals missed the playoffs for the first time in his career in 2016 but damn, the team wasn’t remotely as good either. He lost weapons at the receiver position from 2015 and then lost AJ Green to a season ending injury. He was also sacked the second most times in the NFL (41).
  • The Derek Carr ranking is going to be unpopular as well but he’s overrated. That’s not the equivalent of me saying he’s bad because he’s not. But I think the simple fact that the Raiders were so bad for so long had so many bad quarterbacks for so long that when they finally did get a good one, he was bound to be overrated. He’s just not what he’s billed to be yet.
  • It’s 2017, Eli Manning isn’t better than Kirk Cousins. Hopefully, this isn’t your first time finding that out.
  • I do enjoy watching Tyrod Taylor play. If he was in Baltimore, they wouldn’t repeatedly be missing the playoffs. But he still needs to become a more consistent passer.
  • Sam Bradford is quarterback purgatory. He isn’t bad or anything, but I’m not sure how good your team will really be with him.
  • I can’t proudly wear my Alex Smith cape anymore. The Chiefs missed their window because of him.
  • Carson Wentz is capable of improving from year one to year two, but he just wasn’t good last year.
  • Joe Flacco has been pretty mediocre-bad for a few years now. I don’t care about that Super Bowl run almost 5 years ago.
  • I really don’t like Brian Hoyer as a quarterback. He’s some chickenshit. He doesn’t suck, he’s just scary. The moment is always too big for him. But he’ll put up some fairly decent numbers in this system.
  • I wonder does Trevor Siemian ever feel bad for knowing that he has an amazing team around him but he’s the reason why they probably won’t win more than 9 games.
  • The New York Jets must want to tank. I don’t understand how Josh McCown keeps getting work. Nevermind, he’s tall and white. Shit, that’s why Hackenberg was drafted in the 2nd round.
